The name Egbarin Okafor may not ring a bell but the mention of Abu Abel or Aare Presidential alerts many about a Lagos-based Street Icon whose name is virtually synonymous with glamour and whom celebrities openly courted and fawned over his page, liking and commenting on his posts while tripping over themselves to be noticed by this rich and young property merchant.
In the last few years, many have wondered how he came to amass such vast affluence and an enduring sway at the pinnacle of the Lagos big boys’ world. Only school they say rewards caution, life rewards daring and those who braved the odds in order to set new rules. Such is the story of Abu Abel.
His own is a tale of bravery, daring, survival and success. His story can be likened to the scenario of having a fruitful tree sprouting and blossoming from where we least expect. Having someone growing to be enviable figure in the street is not child’s play. Many have died, countless are nowhere to be found, worst still, many are alive yet have nothing to show for their street struggles.
Only the strongest can survive, hence the Yoruba’s adage, ‘alagbara ni jeun ita!’ But Abu’s efforts paid off. He triumphed and succeeded in harnessing and channeling his resources to a worthy cause. During Covid-19 lockdown, he was everywhere distributing relief materials and food items to his people in an Sagamu and Lagos.
He founded OBIMZY Records on whose platform ‘Junior Boy’, a Nigerian notable hip-hop artist released ‘Irapada’ album. He again started OBIMZY Property, a real estate outfit dealing with sales and leasing of properties in highbrow area of Lagos, especially Lekki-Ikoyi axis.
He has since been growing in leaps and bounds as he junkets the globe in first class cabins, flaunting expensive items and high-end clothing brands and luxury cars.
Today’s he’s a toast of many Nigerian musicians. He’s equally well connected many with who’s who of Lagos. He’s been seen in the company of the likes of Akinshiku of Lagos, Hon. Shina Peller and a host of other powerful Lagos figures.
